Spearhil Gundogs started off with a little girl peering through the fence of the local pub garden at what appeared to be two enormous silver monsters with wagging bodies, elegant with the most liquid gold eyes starring back...Weimaraners.
After years of waiting & planning for the right time, adequate finances & personal responsibility for dog ownership, I finally purchased one of these lovely creatures from the successful Gunalt Kennels owned by Stephen & Patsy Hollings.
‘Gunalt Sensuous’ known to her admirers as ‘Bonnie’ has been a wonderful introduction to an intelligent & challenging breed. She has been generous with her patience in what has been a very steep learning curve not just about the breed around the globe but also in what makes a Weimaraner a Weimaraner - Hunting.
The Weimaraner standard states 'Hunting of Paramount Importance' with this in mind & wanting to experience the breed to their full potential we have gone on a journey that has taken us to many a muddy field on a cold winters day in the UK & Europe.
As a team we have experienced the Grouse Moors on the Isle of Arran (Scotland), Syndicate & Formal Pheasant & Partridge Shoots around the South of England, the Vineyards of France, the fields of Holland & wildfowling on the Isle of Wight. This journey continues with plans to go Germany in the future.
It was at one of the Syndicate Shoots that a comical little black dog caught my eye. Working in & out of the brambles without fear, a pure pleasure to observe & true compliment to my silver ghost, flushing the birds Bonnie had on point but was unable to reach in dense cover saving us from many a thorny ending to the day. So began my love with the Cocker Spaniel. ‘Paoates Pocket Rocket’ better known as ‘Ayla’ is a daughter of that lovely Cocker Spaniel & has inherited both her fun loving temperament & her working ability.
With these two foundation bitches ‘Spearhil Gundogs’ is looking forward with great anticipation to the future. You are more than welcome to join us....
